Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Katharine Doerksen! Katharine is a junior at The University of Kansas, where she is a Philosophy major.

Katharine’s favorite NSCS experience has been getting elected as her chapter’s historian. “I knew I wanted to be involved on the Exec Board for NSCS since getting inducted, so I was so excited when I heard that the chapter’s historian position was opening up,” she says. “I love planning NSCS meetings, events, and getting our members excited about the organization!”

Katharine works as an Orientation Assistant at the University of Kansas, where she is one of 20 friendly faces that new students see upon visiting KU for the first time during their orientation day. “This job is the most high-energy and intensive experience I could imagine, but it is also the most rewarding. The students are always so nervous to be coming into a new environment, where they frequently know no one,” she says. “It’s amazing how grateful they can be for an older student to talk to them kindly and honestly about the experiences which their university has to offer.”

For her contributions to her community and NSCS, Katharine is our Scholar of the Week! Congratulations!
