With the Ecela Spanish program you can live, work, and study in Lima, Peru for six weeks this summer (Jul 3 – Aug 13). This program immerses students in the culture of Peru, where they can study the Spanish language all while making new friends, experiencing a new culture, and earning college credit and valuable community service experience.

Who is eligible?
The program is for students on a path for a career in a counseling related field, such as psychology, human services, or social work.

What is included?
Six weeks of Spanish (equivalent to TWO college semesters), field exposure to Peruvian social systems, and accommodations with a Peruvian host family.

Where is the program?
Lima, the capital of Peru. The USA summer is Peru’s “winter” and the climate will be similar to a mild winter in southern California.

When does it take place?
You should arrive in Lima on July 3, the Sunday before classes begin. The program ends on Saturday, August 13.

How much does it cost?
The tuition for the course, transcript, housing, and most activities is $5,270. NSCS members receive an automatic $300 scholarship, bringing your tuition to $4,970.

Why should I apply?
After the program you will:

  • Receive credit for two semesters of college Spanish. Normally 6 credits but check with your school first.
  • Gain experience in counseling volunteer activities, plus site visits to several social work projects in the Lima area.
  • Increased empathy for Latino cultures after living six weeks with a Peruvian family.
