Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Shannel! Shannel is a senior at Grand Canyon University where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education.
As a member of NSCS, Shannel enjoys communicating with other scholars and community engagement. “NSCS has impacted my life by allowing me to communicate with others who place a huge importance on their education,” said Shannel. “Although I am an online student, I like that the interactive membership site allows me to read others’ journey through their social and academic life.”
On top of being a NSCS scholar, Shannel aspires to be a teacher. “Soon I will have to take my state certification for teaching and I am somewhat scared, but I know through dedication and determination I will come out on top. It doesn’t hurt to have your field experience mentors rooting for you,” said Shannel.
Shannel is also a 28-year-old wife, mother, religious women, and disabled retired veteran. “I love education and working with students. When you do something you love, there will never be a monetary reward in mind. My biggest joy and accomplishment will be when my students walk across the stage for graduation and become active upstanding citizens of the world.”
