Every year, Semester at Sea offers 90,000 dollars in scholarships to NSCS members for their fall and spring voyages. One of our fall semester recipients, Jessie Lessin, writes about her experience on the Fall 2018 voyage.

Semester at Sea – Life Changing, Humbling, Remarkable, Full of Learning Experiences

Semester at Sea! The most influential and impactful four months of my life. I knew I wanted to apply and be a part of Semester at Sea the moment I heard about it. Who wouldn’t love to travel the world on a cruise ship while taking classes and constantly learning and thriving off of an international community that surrounded and encouraged you? The reason I was able to live my dream and participate in this program was because the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. They offer a plethora of scholarships for anything you can imagine and lucky for me one of them was for Semester at Sea. NSCS thrives off of scholarship, diversity, service, and learning and Semester at Sea also fosters all of these ideas. The perfect match. Through Semester at Sea we traveled to Germany, Spain, Ghana, South Africa, Mauritius, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, and Japan before returning to the United States. Each country gave me a global perspective and a look into what this world has to offer and constantly learn from. From the vibrant culture of the Ghanaian people to the traditions valued in China, I can wholeheartedly say I would not trade these experiences for anything. Thank you National Society of Collegiate Scholars for helping show me the world. Joining NSCS is truly worth it.

Jessie Lessin currently attends the University of South Carolina where she pursues degrees in Finance and Sport & Entertainment Management.
