Meet Margaret Helmus from The Florida State University.
Margaret majors in Political Science at The Florida State University and has served as Co-President of FSU’s NSCS chapter for the past year.
Interestingly, Margaret was not even in the country when she was voted in as Chapter President. She ran for office and was elected while studying abroad in Spain. According to Margaret, the process was nerve-racking but satisfying. “Because of the time difference I didn’t really know what was happening in real time or who was running against me. I woke up the next morning to a Facebook message from the executive board letting me know I was the new president. After that I Skyped my parents, screaming and crying because I was so excited!”
Margaret told us that her favorite NSCS experience thus far has been her first NSCS Induction Ceremony as Chapter President. Steve Loflin, Founder and CEO of NSCS, was the guest speaker at the ceremony, and all of the chapter’s advisors and officers were present for the occasion. “It truly made me proud of my chapter and my executive board and all the work we had put into the ceremony. New members, family members, and friends’ excitement and proud glow made me incredibly happy to be a part of such a wonderful organization.”
Congratulations, Margaret – you’re our NSCS Scholar of the Week!
