Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Jannice Newson! Jannice is a junior at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she is a Soil, Environmental, and Atmospheric Science major.

Jannice’s favorite NSCS experience was cleaning up a sinkhole for one of her chapter’s community service events. “It was nice to go outside and participate in cleaning up,” she says. “I did not know that in the past, people used sinkholes like trash cans. There were all types of items in the sinkhole. We found strollers, TVs, tires, carpeting, and many other odd items.”

Jannice hopes to have a career doing science outreach for high school and college students and enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, running, and gardening. “I have been rafting, kayaking, canoeing, ziplining, tobagganing, tubing, and cross country skiing,” she adds.

For her efforts to help our environment, Jannice is our Scholar of the Week! Congratulations!
