Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Ashley Carlberg! Ashley is a sophomore at Oregon State University, where she is an Animal Science major.

Ashley’s favorite NSCS experience was the Oregon Conference hosted at Oregon State University this year. “We had various speakers discuss the benefits of vulnerability, de-stressing activities for the mind and body, how to build successful relationships, how to increase member engagement, and a resume workshop. I was able to meet several new members and discuss volunteer and community events other NSCS chapters partake in,” she says. “Then we participated in a Terrewode event in which we supported the Ugandan women fighting Obstetric Fistula and the survivors of the condition. We spent a few hours sorting beads and preparing bracelets to be sold to financially support Ugandan women in need of surgery.”

Ashley is the VP of Community Service for Oregon State’s chapter. She took a group of NSCS students to her job at the OSU Sheep Center to bottle-feed lambs on May 6 and will bring them to Heartland Humane Society to care for shelter animals on May 20. “I am a very dedicated pre-vet student and I enjoy working with sheep, dogs, cats, and wildlife. I recently started volunteering at Chintimini Wildlife Center working with infant ducks, raptors, raccoons, squirrels, owls, and various other birds,” she says. “This year I won a national award through the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association. I also enjoy playing competitive beach volleyball on the OSU sand courts and going line dancing and salsa dancing.”

For her service to NSCS and the world, Ashley is our Scholar of the Week! Congratulations!
