Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Amber Gray! Amber is a student at Arizona State University where she majors in behavioral health.

As a member of NSCS, Amber’s favorite experience has been helping scholars on her campus receive recognition through NSCS. “My favorite NSCS experience is when I was talking with one of my classmates about academic merit. We were frustrated with the fact that distance learners are sometimes overlooked. My classmate asked was there any way that I could make NSCS more known to individuals on campus. We went on a two-week campaign asking individuals of high meritorious achievement to make sure that they were recognized by NSCS. We explained why it was great for their future careers and resumes,” said Amber.

“After the campaign, a few students informed us that they were able to get recognized by NSCS. This made my heart happy. I love when individuals get proper kudos for their hard work. I am proud to be able to say that I am a part of the NSCS community,” said Amber. “I love reading member blogs and learning about others. In a nutshell, community and recognition are my favorite parts of NSCS.”

Honoring the pillars of scholarship, leadership and service, Amber is not only a scholar, but very involved in her community and dedicated to making the world a better place.

“I have been in the field of domestic violence and child abuse prevention for over 23 years. I took a break to return to school to attain my doctorate, so I can continue my work with counseling victims of violence. I do a lot of philanthropic and humanitarian work for various causes. From heart health, sickle-cell awareness, and more, I’ve dedicated my life to the well-being of others. My future goal is to one day have a trauma-informed care practice. Until then, I plan to do work for various agencies that deal with violence prevention,” said Amber.

“In 2017, in my own hometown, I worked with the mayor of the city to create a proclamation where we worked to bring awareness about violence prevention. I have a deep love and respect for humanity and the safety of others. It is a little-known fact about me.”

For being a dedicated NSCS member and honoring all pillars of NSCS, Amber is our Scholar of the Week!
