Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Alisha Saiyed! Alisha is a student at Northern Virginia Community College, where she is a Computer Science major.

Alisha’s favorite NSCS experience was when she attended her first General Body meeting. “I was taken aback by the professional, businesslike venue, and for the first time, I felt like a proper adult,” she says. “I was anxious, as I was a VIP guest at the meeting, there to invite NSCS members to collaborate with community service projects I was running with my Rotarary Club. I was touched by how the other members and the executive team were so keen to get involved and help serve the community.”

Alisha has lived around the world. “I grew up in Saudi Arabia, living there for about 18 years. However, I am an Indian national and all my family is from there. For the last year and a half, I have been living in America since my family immigrated here on a family visa,” she says. “I can never go back to Saudi Arabia because of strict visa rules, and they do not offer citizenship. From not being able to work, intern, or drive in Saudi Arabia – I now tutor kids, intern at a start-up, and am learning how to drive.”

For her striving to improve herself and her community, Alisha is our Scholar of the Week! Congratulations!
