Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Amanda Demackiewicz! Amanda is a senior at Oklahoma State University, where she is a Microbiology and Biochemistry major.
Amanda’s favorite NSCS experience was a three-week medical internship in Surat, India, she was able to attend through NSCS. “This experience not only broadened my experience in the medical field, but it also opened my eyes to the beautiful culture India has to offer,” she says. “My experience as an intern helped shape my future goals as a physician, and I plan on returning to India every year for cardiology research and clinical volunteering.”
Amanda is starting medical school at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine this fall. “After some family health problems and shadowing cardiologists at Oklahoma Heart Hospital for over 300 hours, I have developed an immense passion for cardiology,” she says. “Upon graduating medical school and completing residency, I plan on working as a cardiologist in Oklahoma to serve our rural and underserved communities, as well as working a few months out of the year in India as a cardiologist.”
For her dedication to helping others, Amanda is our Scholar of the Week! Congratulations!
