Perhaps one of The University of Texas’ most beloved former campus gems, Studio 6A, which housed the famous “Austin City Limits” program for over 30 years holds a special place in many people’s hearts. The famous PBS program has debuted quality music performances year after year, their pilot episode in 1974 featuring Willie Nelson. Many famous local and national acts have graced Studio 6A in its span, gaining much positive recognition and making it a historical campus treasure. Besides being a perfect place for UT students to intern, ACL has served as one of the most successful live music shows in the history of American television.
Going into its 37th season, Austin City Limits made a big move late last year to a bigger studio in downtown Austin. Housed by the Moody Theatre, the new ACL venue can now accommodate many more guests while also maintaining its intimate setting. In addition to the tapings for the show, the new venue will now host many live music acts. The new studio stays true to its roots, with only a slight alteration to the signature Austin skyline backdrop.
Students of all types of majors jump at the chance to intern for Austin City Limits. What could be better than getting college credit while also getting to hear famous artists perform? Students can get their hands on a lot of new experiences with an internship at ACL, from helping with production, to providing “artist hospitality” for the performing artists.
Austin City Limits is in its 37th season and airs on PBS. Artists set to perform for a taping this summer include Raphael Saadiq (June 9), Adele (June 13), Florence and the Machine (June 16), Black Joe Lewis and the Relatives (June 20) and Miranda Lambert (July 20).
