We live in an age where there is pretty much an app for everything. But sometimes, finding the best app for our tech-driven lifestyles can be somewhat of a challenge, especially when looking for apps that allow for international communication. Vonage has created a great, new app called Time to Call which gives you a simple platform to make a 15 minute international call to a mobile or landline for a flat rate. The app is synced through iTunes, which many of us already use, so payment is seamless.

Using this app got me thinking about some of us who may be away from home, studying abroad, looking for the quickest and cheapest way to call home to say, “Hello!” As a student, saving a buck might just be the most important part of the college experience, and no-matter the distance we still need a chance to talk to family and friends. The Vonage app is super convenient in giving students another option to keep in touch. You can just pick your calling country and pay a rate as low as $1.99 for 15 minutes!

There are some cool kicks to the Vonage app: The download of the app is totally free which means you’re saving money from the start. You can also talk over WiFi, saving your valuable minutes from your existing mobile plan. During set up you use your personal phone number, which shows up when making a call. This is a super helpful add-on as it saves your family and friends from the unknown number issue and accidentally ignoring your call. Also because the app is synced to iTunes, there is no need to enter any extra information. The app automatically syncs with your existing account, and is password protected when once you decide to buy some calling time.

Now of course, everything cannot be perfect. The great use of WiFi can also become a hinder as you have the internet connection to use the app. Though it offers calling over 3G, these option only works when using while in US and Canada. The app does allow the carryover of unused minutes for a next call, but reading the fine print, it seems to be a limited time deal. Quality seems to vary on the country you are calling, and their connection.

Overall the Vonage Time to Call app seems to be a great app with all of its options. If you are traveling soon, give it a try… simply download it from iTunes onto your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and start calling. If you download the app now you can take advantage of the special they’re running and get your first 15 minutes free!

Oh, and one more VERY important bit of information…

Stay tuned, because on Friday, August 19th TalkNerdy2Me will be announcing how you can win an iPad 2 32GB WiFi  from Vonage and NSCS.
