• Spring semester not only includes new classes and professors, but also New Year’s resolutions. If your college campus is anything like mine, your school’s gym is crowded with new gym-goers trying to achieve their goals of a healthier lifestyle, losing a few pounds, or getting ready for their tropical Spring Break destinations. My advice for this semester is to skip the line for the treadmill and try out a group fitness class! College Magazine agrees, in their article Dance Off The Freshman 15, they say, “In group workout classes, you have the friends, the music, the positivity and most importantly the fun. While you enjoy fist pumping at the trademark house parties on campus, why not fist pump and shed a few pounds in the process?” I couldn’t agree more! I recently signed up for a Zumba class, and in just 1 hour I burned over 500 calories while still feeling like I was at a party!

• A new semester also means the dreaded task of spending money on textbooks. However, for those of you that got an iPad for the holidays: you might be in luck. Apple announced last week the release of the new iBooks 2 App. In their article, What iBook Textbooks for iPad Mean for Students, HackCollege reviewed the app saying that, “it comes optimized for the new crop of textbooks that are starting to pop up in the iBookstore. Reading one of the iBookstore’s textbooks isn’t like reading a textbook off of any other e-reader. Publishers such as McGraw-Hill, Pearson Education, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt have created interactive, dynamic digital versions of their textbooks to take advantage of the multi-touch capabilities of the iPad 2.” As of now, prices for iBookstore textbooks are much lower than physical textbooks found in campus’ bookstores, so go check it out!

Note Taking in the 21st Century

Send to Kindle

Social media and technology can do wonderful things for students.  When it comes to taking notes, however, I’ve always been a sucker for the old-school method.

While being allowed to take notes on your laptop or tablet provides an indisputable convenience for students, I couldn’t help but feel like a court-reporter, documenting everything my teachers would say as opposed to assessing each point and recording it in a way that makes sense to me. Read More
