Campus Recreation and Wellness Center

October is back! Bringing midterms, due dates, and truckloads of candy, October leaves me with all my favorite autumn foods and the tipping scales to prove it. After metaphorically flinging textbooks across the room, I find the best way to let off steam—and those extra pounds—is to head over to our Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC).

The CRWC opened in the summer of 2010 offering three floors of dedicated work out space. All floors have fitness equipment separated by weights, cardio, and stretching. Each area has floor to ceiling windows offering views of the city, the smaller campus park, or the Iowa River. With a 1/9 mile Jogging Track, two Basketball/Volleyball courts, a multi-purpose Gym, three Activity Rooms, 50-meter Competitive Natatorium, and many lounge/study areas, the CRWC has three key features that truly distinguish it from other campus recreation centers.

Top 5 Things to Look for in a Professor

When I’m choosing my classes for a semester, I always look into the professor first. Even if the course description sounds perfect, if I know the professor’s teaching style or personality won’t work for me, the class will either be harder than it has to be (I don’t do well with daily reading quizzes) or I won’t get enough out of it (class where we only watch movies: pointless to my life).

I personally love discussion based classes and don’t mind writing essays. Some of my friends love listening to professors who are great lecturers or enjoy doing group projects. Since everyone is different, the best way to find out if you will like a professor takes much more than knowing other people thought he or she was great. The following are some more objective qualities to consider… from your own subjective view of course.

When many people hear the word “sorority” or “Greek,” stereotypes come to mind. There are many who do not understand the function and purpose of a sorority; nor do they understand the work and commitment that is involved. These people think only of the stereotypical social aspect of being in a sorority. While a sorority is a social organization, a sorority has many facets and individual benefits.

Pillowcase Studies: A Dream Come True for Every Student

Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted “Starry Night” in 1889. Guess what I had to do to learn this? Take a nap. There was no Internet or textbook involved. All I needed was a pillowcase. Well, not just any pillowcase but a pillowcase that was created by Barry Weinstein, founder of Pillowcase Studies: Homework you can sleep on. Weinstein makes pillowcases that have the core concept of (un-)popular college subjects printed on them. It’s a bit like spark notes for your bed instead of your bookshelf. Thanks to Pillowcase Studies, you will never have to worry about waking up with ugly marks in your face and drool on your textbook.
