Meet our NSCS Scholar of the Week, Ashley Koranteng! Ashley is a student at George Mason University where she majors in public health.
As a member of NSCS, Ashley’s favorite experience is mentoring students through PACE.
“My favorite NSCS experience is definitely PACE. I am the VP of PACE at George Mason University, and I work with 3 different grades of students every other Friday with 12 other NSCS members, serving as PACE mentors. We have snacks, complete mentorship activities, tutor the students, and discuss college / complete activities relating to college.,” said Ashley. “The students are amazing, and I love working with them! I am always looking forward to PACE days because I learn from the students just as much as they learn from me. I also learned a lot about event coordinating through coordinating the program on my own. It is an amazing experience and an amazing community partnership!”
Honoring the NSCS pillars of scholarship and service, Ashley also strives to learn more about the field of health and she is not afraid to explore the unknown.
“I am currently a junior majoring in community health at George Mason University; with a cross-cultural background (Ghanaian and American) that has changed the way I view public health! It has sparked my interest in topics such as social determinants of health, food deserts, health promotion, and health equity,” said Ashley. “Apart from different aspects of public health, I am interested in social entrepreneurship. I love meeting new people, and learning from those in the field I aspire to make a difference in!”
For upholding the pillars of scholarship and service, Ashley is our Scholar of the Week!
