On January 3rd, make sure you go out and buy the Intern Queen Lauren Berger’s new book All Work No Pay. Lauren has created the perfect step-by-step guide for those of you seeking internships.

Follow Lauren on Twitter to find out about the #internchat she is having that day where you can tweet at her with questions about the #internqueenbook. Below, check out the questions that I got to ask Lauren:

What inspired you to put your advice into a book?

When I was in college there were few resources to help me find internships. I wanted to put out a book that would motivate students to get up and go focus on their future. Internships unlocked many doors for me and I know they can do the same for others.

How is the book organized? Did you include your personal experiences as an intern as well as your current perspective as a successful businesswoman?

The book is organized just like a student’s internship journey. We start by explaining why you need an internship and then go into how to find one, prepare for one, and how to make the most of the opportunity. I include tons of personal stories from my fifteen internships and packed it with call-to-action tips.

What can we find in your book that we can’t find on your website?

Our website is filled with tips and tricks from students all over the world – occasionally, I’ll throw in my thoughts as well. The book is all me – all Intern Queen. I think students will really enjoy hearing my personal stories and learning from my mistakes.

Have you seen a major difference in the intern trend since you started InternQueen.com?

I started my business in 2008 when the economy was at its worst. Internships were definitely a buzzword and have increased in popularity since.

Can you share one of your favorite tips from the book?

Put yourself out there. Make things happen. And always include a hand-written thank you note.
